About
Situated in the heart of Colchester’s bustling town centre, St Peter’s Church is already entrenched in Colchester’s many and diverse communities. Home to regular worship services and faith groups, a lunch club for the elderly, a winter mission project for the homeless, and much more, St Peter’s acts as Colchester’s civic church. It welcomes all whether rich or poor, young or old, of any faith or none.
Led by the Rev’d Mark Wallace, also vicar of St Botolph’s Church Colchester, St Peter’s Church is home to a congregation seeking to serve and love those around them. St Peter’s is an Anglican church, part of the Church of England’s Chelmsford diocese, with a goal of proclaiming the message of Jesus and serving those around it. Always offering an open door and a welcome to those of other faiths or of no faith, the core of St Peter’s work is responding to Jesus’ command: to love others, as God first loved us (John 13:34).
In its present situation and with seating for 600, the Church has a unique opportunity for outreach in the local area. Situated less than half a mile from several local education establishments, organisations supporting the elderly, homeless charities, and the Town Hall, St Peter’s has the potential to touch the lives of thousands, and this work has already begun.
This latest redevelopment project will equip the Church and Church Hall to do more, to serve more, and to enable more. Creating a space for flexible and accessible usage, enabling the buildings to be used to welcome and host an even wider range of groups and events in comfortable and modern facilities, the St Peter’s Project will create opportunities for all generations.
